Adopt a Catahoula Leopard Dog

Catahoula Leopard Dog Dog

River the Dog needs a home

DOB 12/18/15. Hi, I'm River! I was surrendered to the shelter because I'm not a huge fan of small children and my previous owners are trying to start a family. They loved me very very much and took very good care of me, but they couldn't run the risk of the newcomer and I not interacting well. I do well with older children and teenagers, as long as they understand the boundaries between what is and is not acceptable when interacting with me. I tend to try to be the dominant male in the room, so I do not do well with other male dogs or overly dominant females. I am kennel trained, and can be in the kennel up to 10 hours if need be. I have been trained with the remote shock collars and respond very well to as little as the vibrate setting. I get protective over rawhides and pig's ears, but seem to do fine with anything else. My favorite toys are nylabones and rope toys and am not protective over them, for whatever reason. I am a healthy boy, but have been diagnosed with Lyme Disease back in July of 2016. It may never pose a problem, but it is something to keep in mind for my future years. I am registered with the National Association of Louisiana Catahoulas, Inc and have the documentation to prove it. I don't like thunderstorms, but otherwise LOVE the outdoors. I am very active, so it would be best for me to go into a home with active parents who can exercise with me. I am a very very good boy and am hoping to find my future home!
